PWI Extension

Overview

PWI Extension evaluates the availability and effectiveness of community-based services, including community education programs, public library services, personal enrichment, and after-school enrichment opportunities.


The program analyzes how these services support lifelong learning and youth development while also comparing the availability and variety of programs across communities. This comparative approach helps identify service gaps, highlight best practices, and provide insights for strengthening local learning ecosystems.


Goals

  • Evaluate community learning services across community education programs, libraries, after-school programs, and other regional services.

  • Online and virtual course support groups.

  • Compare program availability and access across communities.

  • Identify service gaps and opportunities to expand programs.

  • Strengthen coordination among schools, libraries, and community organizations.

  • Support lifelong learning and youth development.


Program Components

  • Community Education Assessment - Reviews community education, personal enrichment, workforce training, and family learning programs to understand participation levels and program diversity.

  • Library Services Assessment - Evaluates libraries as community learning hubs, including educational programming, digital access, youth literacy programs, and public learning spaces.

  • After-School & Youth Enrichment Assessment - Analyzes after-school programs, tutoring, STEM and creative programs, and youth development initiatives.

  • Community Benchmarking - Compares program availability, participation, and access across peer communities to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
